Learning to Get the Most from Kindle

Maybe this is too much behind the scenes, but I'm trying to do a better job in terms of publishing, not just writing. My books and stories are all available for the Amazon Kindle. You may not know this but there are handheld Kindle readers and Kindle apps you can install on your iPhone or Android phone, laptop or desktop computer. If you are reading this post, you can probably read a Kindle ebook. Well, I'm trying to help my readers by optimizing that experience.

Over the next week or so, I'm going back through all my stories and making sure the format of the manuscript makes for the best possible reading experience on your Kindle device or app. Then, I'm making sure each story links back to my new Amazon author page. Why? Well, if you liked one of my stories, you might like another one and putting the link in the manuscript makes it easy to at least take a look at the other stories I offer. If you would like to see my author page, follow the link below:

Then, I'm going back through the Kindle setup information to make sure I have all my books and stories in the right categories. Amazon has a section called Kindle Short Reads and several of my stories fit well there. Amazon has stories grouped into 15 minutes, 30-60-90 minutes and some that are 2 hours of more (but not a lot more). So, for those who enjoy short stories or novellas, for folks that don't have a lot of time, and even for students looking to quick read SOMETHING for a school assignment, there is now a place to go and find exactly what you are looking for. Hopefully, you'll find some of my stories there.

I will also update my covers, as needed, to make them more visually appealing. The least I can do is make my food, er, stories, look good!

So, check back often. I'll also be pricing all my Kindle books and stories at $0.99 to see if we can generate a little momentum. A-N-D I'll be offering stories F-R-E-E sometimes, usually on Fridays. Can't beat free, especially when the stories are so good (even if I do say so myself).

Rodney Robbins--Author and Illustrator?

So, this is a little cartoon mascot I drew up for "The Bite Me Diet Book." Creating and drawing Reddy Racoon was such fun, that I decided to update my YA novel and include pictures at the start of each chapter. So, I guess that makes me an author/illustrator.

This is pretty easy for me as I drew a LOT as a child and never lost the touch. I'm thinking of doing an illustrated poetry book--just because I like writing silly poems and drawing little critters.

I certainly wouldn't include drawings in, say, an adult murder mystery, but I do enjoy them in non-fiction and in fiction for younger readers. As a kid, one of my favorite books was "A Golden Treasury of Poetry." It included all kinds of poems with nice color illustrations. And of course, I really liked "Where the Sidewalk Ends." Below is a drawing of a feather I used to setup one of the chapters in "My Romantic Spell." Anyway, this was just something fun to share. You can share it too on Facebook or Twitter.

New Edition of "My Romantic Spell"

Originally published 10 years ago, I'm going BACK to Salem to spend time with 5th general Witch Jasmine Smith and her friend Wendle. This is a young adult novel. It could be for middle school readers or high school students. Of course, some of us enjoy YA novels ever as adults. I like them because they are usually shorter and full of excitement. Strangely enough, young adult books often touch on issues that adult books are afraid to go near. In this story, the issue is: When is magical helping just plain meddling? Does Jasmine have the RIGHT to interfere, magically or otherwise, in her mother's romantic life? To find out, read the book.

"My Romantic Spell" is available for Kindle readers from Amazon.com. You can download it instantly and read it on your iPhone, Android, iPad, laptop or even your good old fashioned desktop computer.

There is a pretty good preview of this book available for free. Just follow the link above, then click on the book cover (like the one shown here, but at Amazon.com) and you can read the first chapter for free.

I hope you enjoy it. I'm outlining "My Dream Spell" now.

If you've read this book, or would like to recommend it to your friends, please uses the social buttons and share on Facebook, Twitter or Google+. Thanks.

The Cover for "The Bite Me Diet Book"

Well, the new covers are done for "The Bite Me Diet Book--Healthy Eating with an Attitude." Much better. Personally, I liked the old sugar skull covers, because using the sugar skull is a fun way to remember how to structure healthy meals. I think everyone ELSE thought my book was about POISON! Not a good way to advertise a book that's really about healthy eating.

If you like the new cover, or just the idea of healthy eating for healthy living, rather than starvation dieting for half-starved living, please share on Facebook or Twitter.

PS
There are TWO versions of this book. One is tweaked for Kindle readers. The other one has large print and full size pages you can copy and use--there's a shopping list, medical form, food log pages and MORE in the print version. It's also more expensive. IMHO they're both great!
